How to remove leaked content from Telegram

Telegram is where stolen content goes to feel safe. Channels with names like "[your niche] mega vault" pass collections around with the cheery confidence of people who believe, incorrectly, that Telegram is beyond the law. It is harder than Reddit or a normal website, we will not pretend otherwise, but "harder" is not "impossible", and creators get Telegram channels killed every week. Here is how.

Why Telegram is the awkward one

• •No public web host to lean on. A leak site has a hosting company you can pressure. Telegram hosts its own content, so the only door to knock on is Telegram itself.
• •Historically slow on copyright. Telegram is famously protective of user content. It does act on copyright reports, but on its own schedule, and public channels get more attention than private ones.
• •Channels respawn. A banned channel's admin opens a new one and invites everyone back. Persistence is part of the game.

The reporting routes, in order

1. 1In-app report. Open the channel, tap the name, Report, choose Copyright. Quick, low effort, worth doing for every channel, but do not stop here.
2. 2Email a proper DMCA notice to dmca@telegram.org. This is the route that actually works. Send a formally structured notice (see our DMCA guide for the required elements) including direct links to the infringing posts, not just the channel. Use t.me/channelname/123 style message links where you can.
3. 3Report the channel's public link page. If the channel has a t.me link indexed on Google, you can delist that from search results too, which chokes off new members finding it.
4. 4For intimate images, add the harassment route. If the leak includes intimate content shared without consent, report it as such (abuse@telegram.org) alongside the copyright route. UK law (sharing intimate images without consent is a criminal offence) gives this extra weight, and platforms treat NCII reports with more urgency than copyright.

Getting message links for your notice

Telegram notices live and die on specifics. For a public channel, tap any message, choose Copy Link, and you get a URL like t.me/channelname/456. List every message containing your content. For private channels there are no public links, so include the channel name, its invite link if you have it, and screenshots; Telegram can still locate it.

The realistic outcome

Expect to kill public channels, slow private ones, and play an occasional rematch. Pair every Telegram report with search delisting and normal-web takedowns, because Telegram channels are usually fed by (and feed) ordinary leak sites, which are far easier to remove.
